Exploring the Best Family Parks In Memphis

Shelby Farms Park

Shelby Farms is a 4,500 acre urban park in Shelby County. It is a nature lover's playground that appeals to kids and adults alike. There are over 40 miles of trails as well as the 10.65 mile Greenline that connects cyclists from the  Midtown area of Memphis to Cordova. Learn more about the park and conservancy efforts here.     Check out some family activity ideas below!

Bike

As mentioned above, there are over 10 miles of biking trails. While part of the Greenline runs alongside city streets, there are plenty of safe paved trails off the beaten path. You can bring your own bike or you can rent a bike from the park. There are also free bike repair stations in the event you get a flat tire! My kids loving riding bikes at Shelby Farms. It is one of our top family activities.

Walk

Walking is one of the best exercises for your health. Shelby Farms offers numerous trails. You can choose a wooded path, paved path, or take a nice walk around the lake!

Water

At Shelby Farms Park you can fish in your choice of more than 20 lakes and ponds! There are paddle boats or canoes for rent as well. This would be a great activity for older kids. While renting a boat or canoe isn't free, it may be a treat for a special occasion. However, if you already own your own you can bring it with you! Note: there is no swimming allowed. It is always a good idea to check out the park's website for rule and regulations if it your first time to boat or fish.

For Kids

There  is a Woodlands Discovery Playground that children will love! During the summer, you can also take the kids to play at the Water Play Sprayground. There is a fee and time limit when visiting the Sprayground so be aware of that when planning your visit.
